Derrick Gaffney named new Head coach of TUSAAFSS

TUSAAFSS is proud to have Derrick Gaffney step up into the Head Coach Position. Derrick will help with the ongoing task of helping with Camps and arranging games here in the USA and abroad. Derrick will have a direct role in getting some of the local Quality athletes from his home town of Jacksonville and the rest of Florida.

Derrick Gaffney

College career

Gaffney received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida
in Gainesville, Florida, where he played for coach Doug Dickey's Florida
Gators football team from 1974 to 1977.[3] Memorably, Gaffney caught a
ninety-nine-yard touchdown reception from Cris Collinsworth in the Gators'
48–3 victory over the Rice Owls in 1977, which tied the then-current NCAA
record and remains the longest touchdown pass in Southeastern Conference (SEC)
history.[3] While he was a Florida undergraduate, Gaffney was also a member of
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Professional career

The New York Jets chose Gaffney in the eighth round (197th pick overall) in
the 1978 NFL Draft,[4] and he played for the Jets from 1978 to 1984 and again
in 1987.[5] His single best season was his rookie year in 1978, when he caught
thirty-eight passes for 691 yards.[1] Gaffney started sixty-eight of 100 games
in which he played for the Jets, and finished his NFL career with 156
receptions for 2,613 yards and seven touchdowns.

Gaffney's older brother, Don Gaffney, was the starting quarterback for the
Florida Gators from the middle of the 1973 season through the end of 1975,

 and
was the first African-American to become the starter at the quarterback
position for the Gators.

 Gaffney is also the father of current Denver Broncos

and the uncle of current Minnesota Vikings

Lito Sheppard. Both played for the Gators: Jabar Gaffney in 2000

and 2001, and Lito Seppard from 1999 to 2001.

Game in Dubai cancelled once again for the final time.

TUSAAFSS has cancelled its game with the UAE Falcons due to concerns in the area. We regret that we could not make this event possible after many advances with American Football in the United Arab Emirates. Hopefully in the future with sponsorship help we will be able to make the event a reality not a dream. TUSAAFSS Adds Former NFL Kicker Donald Igwebuike to staff.

Donald Igwebuike will be joining the staff as the kicking coach and African American Football Diplomat. Donald will also be involved in Kicking camps with the TUSAAFSS Staff and Players in April 2011.

On February 5, 2011, I attend the Texas vs.  The Nation senior bowl.   Before attending I had never heard of this senior bowl I was only familiar with the Under Armor senior bowl and East West Shrine game.  So going in I wasn’t hesitant   about the talent level but once I was there I was blown away at the amount of talent. Out of the 110 players 95 of them had invitations to the NFL combine in Indianapolis. All of the players playing in the game were rated by NFL scouts to be in the top ten at their respective position. Within those players were two first round prospect both nose tackles. One playing for the Nation his name was Kenrick Ellis from Hampton University which is located in Hampton, Virginia. The other playing for the Texas team his name was Jerrell Powe from Mississippi which is located in Oxford, Mississippi. 

When I first arrived to practice I was confused because there were player from colleges outside of Texas playing on the Texas team. I was then told that to be on the Texas team you just needed some kind of Texas tie the most obvious being playing for a state of Texas University or playing high school in the state of Texas. Which is how Mario Fannin, running back, from the National Champion Auburn Tigers was allowed to play on the Texas team.

As for the game, it started out looking like it would be a shootout because both teams scored on big plays in the first quarter. Taylor Potts from Texas Tech connected with Denarius Moore from Tennessee for the games opening touchdown 3 minutes into the first quarter. Then Damien Berry from Miami University ran for a 72 yard touchdown run.  After that both teams pretty much staled on all their drive with the final score being 13-7 Texas winning. Team Texas leads the overall series 3-2.  Taylor Potts was named game’s MVP.

Overall, I thought the talent level was great and could see this game become a great partner for Team USA American Football Stars and Stripes. All of the player will either be drafted or get picked up as free agents and given a look by NFL teams. For Team USA I would say keep a database of all these players because any of them would make great player for Team USA not all of the will make NFL rosters next year and our game will be a great opportunity for some of them to get another look in a game setting and to stay involved with football.

THE MISSION

Team USA American Football Stars & Stripes, main goal is to help with the
growth of American Football in Developing Countries at all levels. With the growing movement of American Football around the world, it is the TUSAAFSS’s mission to become the Best Non Professional Team that will be playing American Football in developing countries that have not yet had the entertainment experience of the game. TUSAAFSS partnerships with organizations that are involved directly will help pave the way for maximum exposure of the sport in
developing countries and help bring new relationships between different
countries. TUSAAFSS will consist of highly trained athletes and staff members who will help with the training of new athletes, as well as entertaining, along with the Stars & Stripes Cheerleaders and Mascot. TUSAAFSS’ games will be played internationally to show the true spirit of the sport of American Football. TUSAAFSS’ partnership with the Team USA American Football Stars &
Stripes Foundation will mainly be to provide entertainment to the foundation
when required. Please note that when we say Developing Countries, we mean countries that will be developing American Football programs.

THE TEAM

Team USA American Football Stars & Stripes Team will consist of recently
graduated college athletes and or former professional athletes. Each team member will be screened for athletic ability and character and will be supported by the Stars & Stripes Cheerleaders and team Mascot. The TUSAAFSS team will have a staff of coaches, trainers, and administrative professionals who will maintain the running of the team and help promote the different programs that will be set up in Developing countries. TUSAAFSS Team members will be available at all events to show the true meaning of the sport and create partnerships with organizations that are interested in starting American Football programs in their countries. The team will be an advertising beacon for the sport and will look for innovative ways of displaying sponsor logos directly on uniforms. TUSAAFSS will act as a valued entertainment magnet
that will draw fans of all ages to the sport of American Football in
Developing Countries.

Look for the addition of TUSAAFSS TV in the near future. We will feature our own TV network which will show the different programs we will helping around the world. Its not just about the sport its also about helping the culture of American Football which goes beyond just the sport itself. One of our goals is to make sure no athletes are left behind because they can not afford to pay to participate.

Preparations are finally being made for this historic event in Abu Dhabi/Dubai. More to come on the events on the game along with Sponsors for the event. The UAE National team has delayed past plans on playing Egypt due to the unrest in Cairo at the moment. The USA Egypt Soccer game was postponed due to the unrest.

TUSAAF Stars and Stripes gears up for future games.

TUSAAF Stars and Stripes will finally get ready for games overseas in 2011. Games are being worked on in various locations and will be announced once final details are released. Please stay tuned to the news as it breaks for TUSAAF is looking to help with the growth of American Football in areas that maybe surprising to many fans of American Football. USA offices are being moved to Florida and will be the launching pad for future games.

The Gorilla Rilla Officially became the TUSAAF Mascot in 2007 

and has made trips overseas visiting with troops in Europe on 2 occasions.

The Gorrila Rilla was a hit with troops overseas who enjoyed
his fun loving attributes as he visited with troops who returned
from Iraq and Afghanistan in Germany.

family members while overseas.

Politics in American Football overseas

It would seem like people in the United States are not aware of what is going on in American Football overseas. Europeans have been trying to put a stronghold on our great sport of American football by claiming that the game is theirs to regulate when ever they get the chance. Point is in what the IFAF, EFAF and USA Football are doing when it comes to the World Cup of American Football. The international Federations have put large amounts of money into creating a Federation that bans teams from playing the few American teams that dare to come overseas to play Football depending on the name of the team. The United States does not do this practice nor does it care what a team calls itself that comes to the United States to play our game of football in the United States. If Americans are not aware by now because of what has occured to baseball and basketball the rest of the world gets a kick out of beating us at our own sports. Many different people from all over the world come to the United states to play sports and make millions of American dollars that they could not make in their own countries. The main part of the downfall of some of our sports is our own isolationism and because this, we are not aware of what other countries are doing in a particular sport until it is to late. We are so worried about regulating ourselves that we do not realize that other countries are doing things at all costs right under our noses just to prove that we are not a strong country. We import everything even our own Jobs and now athletes. It is very evident in hockey where Canadians were the majority in the sport, and now the minority. I think North American's should look at what is really going on around the world and level the playing field on what is going on. Examples are what the Europeans do in their own countries when it comes to Americans that play certain sports. In American Football only 2 Americans are allowed on the field and in Germany they have Americans put a big A on their helmets to brand them as so. Other countries are lobbying to ban americans from playing on American Football teams overseas. Makes one wonder if this practice is not being looked at by any sports administrators in the United States. If American teams had to put an E on every European player that played college sports lawsuits would be running wild. It makes one wonder what some Americans are thinking when they think that no one can do it better then Americans, when in reality given enough time others can do even better. This is not politics but to be honest attitudes towards sports has changed in many different ways since the year 2000. American sports needs a kick start away from the professional athletes when it comes to International play. Team USA American Football was created to try to change this spiral that has been going on and all TUSAAF has been getting is critics. Makes one wonder why a lot of Americans are not seeing the writing on the wall, when it comes to what is going on around in the world. Many different countries would love to see us fail at certain things but in sports is an area that a lot of Americans take for granted. lets be honest Americans rarely even show up for international events. The baseball World challenge should be a clear example of what is going on. Japan like usual when given any project will take it to its fullest and then some. Japan, believe it or not have the best amateur teams. If the United States does not watch what is going on we will be in the same situation as baseball.

Legends Help out Team USA American Football

Team USA American Football gets a little help from Jack Pardee and Bum Phillips. TUSAAF donated a Team USA American Football Jersey to the United Staes Army dining facility in Germany, to show its support for the Army. legendary Coaches Jack Pardee and Bum Phillips signed autographs and signed helmets in the dining facility. which will go on display at the dining facility in Germany.

What or who is the USA National American Football Team

We here want to put the record clear on who is actually the American National Team for the United States. The Aztec Bowl Team is actually the only American Team that is claiming to be the National Team for the United States http://www.aztecbowl.com/ If you go to this link you will see the history of the Aztec Bowl and who are directly involved in the making of the USA National Team. Team USA American Football is totally independent of the organizations that are involved with the National team and TUSAAF has no real need or want to become the National team of the United States. Team USA American Football is made up of different athletes and welcomes Americans abroad onto its roster to show the respect we have for Americans who are playing abroad on teams overseas because they live and work in the local communities. Military members were the first in many cases to bring American Football to local communities and this is another reason why Team USA American Football is unique because we acknowledge the people who have played a major part in making American Football popular in certain communities overseas. Team USA Football

USA Football is backed by the NFL and has a direct affiliation with Global Football because they work together with Global football with the Global Jr Championships which is sponsored by the NFL during Super Bowl week. Team USA American Football/Stars & Stripes has a verbal agreement with both USA Football and Global Football to work together in promoting American Football overseas.
Team USA Football are run by semi pro organizations that charge their players to wear the USA uniform. In most cases players on this team only play on the team if they can afford to pay the price to get to locations overseas on their own money. Hopefully this little explanation give some people in American Football overseas a good idea of what is going on with the representation of American Teams in the United States who where the USA Title. The World Cup of American Football will be played in Japan in 2007 and at present USA Football is the only organization who has been paying dues to be called the National team of the United States so this organization will be putting together a team for the American Football World Cup. If you see the alliances that are together you will notice that the Aztec Bowl people will likely get the nod to field the USA National team. USA Football itself works at the Youth Level and does not have a team that plays Under the USA Football logo at the senior level. American Football federations in Europe, Japan, and Mexico are not 100 % sure yet who or when a team will be named for 2007 but they know a American Team will be involved in the World Cup of American Football for the first time since it was established. Overseas National American Football teams are driven by government money to keep a National team, where as American Teams at least in American Football are not. This is the main reason why American Teams in American Football are not traveling on a regular basis to play games overseas. Team USA American Football/Stars&Stripes has been established to have an American Team that can play teams internationally as an independent club team with out active Professional players to help the growth of the amateur sport worldwide.

Advertising on Uniforms in American Football in Europe

Advertising is the life blood of American Amateur football teams in Europe. Sponsorship is what keeps teams in the hunt to get the best players and equipment. Sponsors adverts are put on every inch of the uniform that can be used in some cases.

American Football in Europe

Some Amateur teams in Germany average better attendance then some of the local soccer teams.
The Braunschweig Lions have proven to be one of the best amateur teams in Europe.

American Football is a best kept secret to the American Football fan in Europe. The NFL Europe is not the only American football being played in Germany.




















Teams in France have been playing American Football for over 20 years, because of the weather in France they start their seasons earlier then most teams in Europe

The TUSAAF Stars & Stripes Helmet says it load and clear USA. Each helmet is Copywritten and adorns the Red White and Blue Colors with 50 stars to represent each state. Both the Senior

and Junior teams will wear the helmet which will stand out like never before on the American Football field. Riddell will be one official helmets along with other Helmet makers until TUSAAF names a official Helmet of Team USA American Football Stars & Stripes.

Marketing for the Official TUSAAF Stars & Stripes helmet will be handled by TUSAAF INC.

The TUSAAF Helmet has been presented to some notable celebrities such as former Chief of Staf of the Army and AUSA President Gen Gordon Sullivan, Bum Phillips, Jack Pardee, Gary Sinese, Haddaway, Landstuhl Medical Center, Rick Courtright, John Shannon, and the 94th ENG Co.

Why TUSAAF

At present European and Asian teams have been getting much better and have been beating traveling Semi Pro teams who play with athletes who pay their own way. Because of the costs that are involved the teams do not get top notch players and it has been very evident that this practice needs to end. TUSAAF's goal is to change this practice, and start to put the best players on the field and secure corperate sponsorship for our Senior and Junior teams that really represents American Football as it is called overseas at the Club amateur level. TUSAAF Stars & Stripes as we are now called is vigorously looking for sponsors who are wanting to join in on making this organization work for all who are involved.
